Optoelectronic and Photonic Devices By Inkjet Printing

Abstract

Additive manufacturing and solution-processable semiconductors and dielectrics open the path to novel photonic devices. Perovskite semiconductors are a promising class of materials for various optoelectronic applications. The ease of processing and their outstanding semiconductor properties make this material class interesting for solar cells and light-emitting devices. Inkjet printing can be used as a versatile and fast method for depositing such devices. This deposition method also bears the potential to change how we fabricate laterally patterned and vertically layered devices. High-quality micro-lens arrays can be printed by a one-drop/one-lens method. Moreover, complex layered structures such as optical interference filters. Dielectric mirrors comprising ten bilayers of alternating high and low refractive index material have been realized by inkjet printing.

Biography

Uli Lemmer received a diploma degree in Physics from RWTH Aachen University in 1990 and a Ph.D. from the University of Marburg in 1995. From 1995 to 1996, he held a postdoctoral position with the University of California at Santa Barbara. He was with the University of Munich from 1996 to 2002. In 2002, he was appointed a full Professor of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and director of the Light Technology Institute, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Since 2006, he has also coordinated the Karlsruhe School of Optics & Photonics (KSOP). Furthermore, he is heading the device physics competence center within the Innovation Lab in Heidelberg. His research interests are in the technology and the applications of printable organic and inorganic semiconductors and in developing suitable fabrication technologies.
