Martin Seifrid Joins MSE As New Assistant Professor

Martin Seifrid

We are excited to announce that Dr. Martin Seifrid will be joining the NC State University Department of Materials Science and Engineering as an Assistant Professor this fall.

His group will develop self-driving laboratories – automated experiments guided by machine learning – and leverage them to design precisely controlled organic mixed ionic-electronic conducting materials with applications in sensing, energy storage, healthcare, and neuromorphic computing.

Since October 2019, Dr. Seifrid has conducted research with Professor Alán Aspuru-Guzik at the University of Toronto where he worked on self-driving laboratories, autonomous molecular design, automated synthesis and characterization, and organic lasing materials.

Dr. Seifrid received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2019. He worked in the Center for Polymers and Organic Solids from 2014 to 2019 under the supervision of Professor Guillermo C. Bazan. He has published over 30 papers, holds two patents, and has participated in numerous outreach STEM programs at UCSB including Graduate Students for Diversity in Science, and Sci Trek.
