Center for Molecular Spintronics Funded

The Center for Molecular Spintronics seeks to reveal the fundamental principles underlying the optimal use of organic molecules for spin transport and manipulation through new synthesis, advanced characterization, and state-of-the-art modeling.

Joe Tracy's group will synthesize and functionalize nanoparticles for use in spintronic test devices that will help understand spin polarization and spin transport in magnetic nanoparticles.  These principles will drive the development of a new generation of low cost, low power, high performance spin-dependent device applications.

The center is committed to pursuing these developments in close concert with industrial partners, science educators, and the general public to ensure wide-reaching impacts. The eight principal investigators are:

The grant is for Phase I funding at $1.5 million over 3 years.
