Dr. Tobin Marks is Ipatieff Professor of Catalytic Chemistry, Professor
of Materials Science and Engineering, Professor of Applied Physics and
Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Northwestern University.
Marks’ research interests are in transition metal and f element organometallic
chemistry; catalysis; vibrational spectroscopy; nuclear magnetic resonance;
synthetic facsimiles of metalloprotein active sites; carcinostatic metal
complexes; solid state chemistry and low-dimensional molecular metals;
nonlinear optical materials; polymer chemistry; tetrahydroborate coordination
chemistry; macrocycle coordination chemistry; laser-induced chemistry and
isotope separation; molecular electro-optics; metal-organic chemical vapor
deposition; polymerization catalysis; printed flexible electronics; solar energy;
and transparent conductors.

His recognitions include the U.S. National Medal of Science, the Spanish
Principe de Asturias Prize, the MRS Von Hippel Award, the Dreyfus Prize in
the Chemical Sciences, the National Academy of Sciences Award in Chemical
Sciences, and the ACS Joseph Priestley Medal.

He is a member of the U.S., German, and Indian National Academies of
Sciences, the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, the American Academy
of Arts and Sciences, and the U.S. National Academy of Inventors. He is a
Fellow of the U.K. Royal Society of Chemistry, the MRS, and the ACS. Marks
has published more than 1,200 peer-reviewed articles and holds 260 issued
U.S. patents with an h-index of 146 (on 86,000 citations). He has given more
than a hundred distinguished named lectures.

Marks holds Honorary Doctorate Degrees from Hong Kong University of
Science and Technology, the University of South Carolina, the Ohio State
University and the Technical University of Munich.
He founded Polyera, Inc. in Skokie, Ill. The flexible electronics company has
104 employees in the United States and Taiwan.
