As the curtains draw close on his undergraduate journey, Ian Mercer, a hometown hero hailing from Cary, North Carolina, is set to embark on a new chapter of his life. Graduating from NC State University's Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), Ian reflects upon his path, accomplishments, and aspirations with a sense of pride and gratitude.

Successful Fundraising Campaign Boosts NC State MSE

Day of Giving was a record success for NC State MSE, achieving a significant milestone in its fundraising efforts, thanks to the generous contributions of alumni and industry leaders. The department surpassed its fundraising goal of 65 gifts, which unlocked a contribution from MSE alums and co-founders of Wolfspeed (Cree), Calvin Carter and John Edmond.

MSE Visual Competition Results

The NC State MSE department recently hosted its second visual competition as a way to foster positive morale and encourage a supportive spirit for faculty, staff, and students. After a competitive and nail-biting review by the judging panel, the winners have been selected and we are excited to announce them. Two winners were selected for the main competition.

Students Use Robotics to Complete Organic Chemistry Lab

External Students Shine at Inaugural Frontiers of MSE Undergraduate Symposium

The first annual Frontiers of MSE Undergraduate Symposium included poster presentations by undergraduate students from colleges across the country. The 2023 cohort was also presented with awards.
