Introducing: The Incredible Atomic Force Microscope

NCSU MSE is the proud new home to the MFP-3D Origin+ Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) by Asylum Research. This state-of-the-art AFM conducts research on nanoscale electro-(chemo-)mechanical phenomena in a variety of environments.

The newly acquired AFM is equipped with a cooler/heater stage, a humidity sensored cell, and an electrochemical cell, this instrument enables cutting edge research in the fields of dielectrics, ferroelectrics and ionically conducting materials for information and energy technologies where the change in functional material parameters under a variety of external stimulus can be locally measured and linked to large scale device performance.

This equipment will be instrumental in groundbreaking microscopy research by Dr. Nina Balke and her research group beginning in Fall 2021.
