Several NCSU MSE students were awarded at the second annual Triangle Student Research Competition on September 3 at RTP headquarters. The event, which was sponsored by local Materials Research Society and Electrochemical Society chapters, featured materials and electrochemical based research from students at universities around the Triangle including NCSU, UNC-Chapel Hill, and Duke.
Wei-Chen Wu and Bryan Anderson from Professor Joe Tracy’s group were Research Triangle MRSEC Technology Innovation Forum Winners for their posters “Large-Scale Silica Overcoating of Gold Nanorods and Their Thermal Stability” and “Silica Overcoating of CdSe/CdS Quantum Dot Nanorods with Tunable Morphologies”.
Nan Li and Jessica Nash won third and first overall best poster for their posters titled “Self-assembly of polyelectrolyte block copolymers using dissipative particle dynamics with an implicit solvent ionic strength method” and “Nanoparticle induced DNA bending” respectively. Both are members of Professor Yara Yingling’s group. Li’s work has been featured recently in MSE news – more can be read here.
