Yaroslava Yingling Named Kobe Steel Distinguished Professor

RALEIGH, N.C.– The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) has named Professor Yaroslava Yingling as the fourth Kobe Steel Distinguished Professor, effective September 1, 2022.

The professorship was established 34 years ago at a ceremony at NC State University on March 14, 1988. This partnership for university distinction was formed by a group of NC State College of Engineering faculty and private sector partners, including former MSE department head John Hren and former president of Kobe Development Corporation Mr. S. Yano.

Research in Prof. Yingling’s group focuses on the development of materials informatics, advanced computational models, and novel multiscale molecular modeling approaches for investigations of properties and processes in composite, soft and biological materials.

About the Kobe Steel Distinguished Professorship

The appointment of Professor Yingling as a Kobe Steel Distinguished Professor is a unique and meaningful recognition in the department that comes with a financial benefit in addition to the prestige of the named professorship. Established as a distinction for one professor beginning with Robert Davis in 1988 until his retirement from NC State in 2004, the Kobe Steel professorship was revised in 2004, expanding the honor to name three additional faculty members.

Professor Yingling joins three other current MSE professors with this named professorship:
