Procedure for Pre-Registration Advising

Instructions for Students

  1. Look up the Schedule of Courses — available on-line only. Select the courses you would like to take.
  2. Pick up your ADA (Degree Audit and Advisement Report) from your mailbox, 3037 Engineering Building I (EB I).
  3. Before meeting with your Advisor:
    1. Complete an upgraded Advising Planning Form. (MSE homepage).
    2. Complete the Undergraduate On-line Plan of Work (http://www-records.ncsu.edu/view/viewlets.html).
    3. Complete or update the appropriate Humanities Form (14MTE971 curriculum use old requirements; all other MSE curricula, use new requirements.)
    4. Complete the Application for Degree "blue card" if you are graduating at the end of this semester or at the end of the coming summer semester.
    5. Forms are available in 3078 Engineering Building I (EB I) or can be downloaded here.
  4. Make an appointment to see your advisor (sign-up sheet outside of your advisor's office) within the first three weeks of the advising period, regardless of when your window of scheduling access is. A list of advisors and their contact information is available here.
  5. Be prepared to discuss with your advisor if applicable . . .
    1. Academic difficulties
    2. Alternative ways to finance your education (co-op, part-time, scholarships, lab opportunities)
    3. Requirements for graduation
    4. Minors in other departments
    5. Graduate School, BS/MS degree, etc.
  6. Please make sure both you and your advisor sign the Advising form. Return Advising Planning Form and Humanities Requirements Form to 3078 Engineering Building I (EB I) - receive your PIN from Edna.
  7. Dr. Balik, Director of Undergraduate Programs, has an open-door policy should any problem arise.
