Professional Experience

Zlatko Sitar joined North Carolina State University in 1995. He is a Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and head of the laboratory for research on Wide Bandgap Materials. He focuses on growth and characterization of III-nitride and diamond thin films, III-nitride crystal growth, field emission, and development of photonic bandgap materials and devices.

Prior to joining NCSU, Zlatko Sitar worked for four years at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, Switzerland, as an Assistant Professor at the Institute for Quantum Electronics. He led a research effort on ferroelectric and organic nonlinear optical thin films, and fabrication of efficient pyroelectric sensors.

Zlatko Sitar began his working career after graduation in 1982. He worked as an R&D engineer, developing solid state lasers and optical coatings, at Fotona, Ljubljana, Slovenia, and conducted research on optical spectroscopy of laser materials, semiconductors, and liquid crystals at the Institute Jozef Stefan in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
